Wasantha Weliange

Cave ecology and speleobiology are important parts of cave sciences. Dr. Wasantha Weliange is working as the cave ecologist as well as the field director of the cave science program. He received one month training for cave mapping and identification of speleotherms while he was in Australia. He has a Ph.D in Natural Sciences obtained from the University Of Innsbruck, Austria in 2007, M.Phil in Freshwater Ecology from University Of Kelaniya in 2003 and  B.Sc in Zoology from University of Kelaniya in 1991. Also he has participated and concluded International Postgraduate Course in Limnology (IPGL), conducted by Institute for Limnology of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in 2001. He has published 15 papers in international journals and contributed 3 chapters to the “Biology of Inland Waters, Published by Backhuys publishers, The Netherlands. Also he has attended about 20 international conferences.  

 

Pathmakumara Jayasingha

Understanding the overlying geology (including Geochemistry, Hydrogeology and Geomicrobiology) is an important part in cave science, and Geologist. Pathmakumara Jayasingha is an enthusiast and participated for exploration of each cave. Mr. Pathmakumara Jayasingha is reading for his Mphil in Geology at the University of Peradeniya, has a MSc in Environmental Science from University of Peradeniya (2004), B.Sc.Sp (hons) in Geology from University of Peradeniya (2001). He is a Research Scientist/Geologist attached to the Research Laboratory at the Central Cultural Fund and worked as a Geologist in Gem and Jewellary Research and Training Institute from 2003-2005.after graduation he has worked as a Demonstrator in the Department of Geology, University of Peradeniya. He has about 15(4 International including one book chapter and 11 local) Research Papers and 25 Abstracts.

A.S. Dandeniya

Cave mapping is the master step in cave sciences and also a team work. It needs about 4-5 people. Archt:. A.S. Dandeniya is trained to be the responsible person for cave mapping in the project. By profession Mr. Dandeniya is a charted architect. He is naturally well talented and like the challenging atmosphere in the caves. Archt: Dandeniya received his M.Sc in Architecture from the University of Moratuwa in 2008, reading for the M.Sc in Archaeology from University of Kelaniya , Postgraduate Diploma in Archaeology from University of Kelaniya in 2007, and B.Sc in Built Environment from the University of Moratuwa in 2006.

Prageeth Algiriya

Basic investigations about the caves with regard to prehistoric settlement aspects are also an important part for the categorization of the caves. Archaeologist. Prageeth Algiriya is working on this particular area and also an important member in the cave mapping team. Mr. Algiriya is reading for the M.Sc in Archaeology at the University of Kelaniya, completed Postgraduate Diploma in Archaeology in University of Kelaniya in 2007, and obtained his B.A (Sp) in Archaeology from the University of Kelaniya in 2006. He is presently working as a government teacher.

Saman Senanayake.

By profession Mr. Senanayake is an Interior designer. He received his M.Sc in Project Management from the University of Moratuwa, reading for the MA in Archaeology from University of Kelaniya, Postgraduate Diploma in Archaeology from University of Kelaniya in 2011, and B.Des(Hons) in Faculty of Architecture from the University of Moratuwa in 2007. 

Mahesh Champika

Mr. Champika is an Interior designer. He received his B.Des(Hons) in Faculty of Architecture from the University of Moratuwa in 2012.Member of Lanka council of waterfalls.

Duminda Alahakoon

Photographic documentation of the events, speleothems and cave fauna are an essential part in the Cave science project. Mr. A.M. Duminda Alahakoon who is a trained photographer has being trained for photographing in the cave science project. He has received his qualification from Sri Lal Gomes Photo Academy and Photography and Art Society Sri Lanka.

Dinesh D. Dewage

Taking notes and managing the diary is important in field. Dinesh D. Dewage is an Archaeologist. Reading for the M.Sc in Archaeology at the University of Kelaniya, and obtained his B.A (Sp) in Archaeology from the University of Kelaniya in 2011. He is presently working as a Research Assistant at PGIAR.
